They said that up until this point, there had never been a set regimen for martial arts in the army or a predetermined programme at regiment centres. Nevertheless, a few regiments, including the Assam, Naga, and Gorkha, specialise in their own martial arts instruction.

The army made the decision to implement this procedure in order to adapt to the evolving nature of conflict and equip its soldiers for all types of unarmed conflict, including hand-to-hand fighting.

The AMAR curriculum will specifically instruct soldiers in fundamental and advanced mixed martial arts techniques and manoeuvres. MMA will be practised with the same frequency and rigour as essential abilities like shooting, stamina, and battlecraft. In essence, it is intended to become a “must-have skill” in the future.

They stated training on AMAR to upskill and empower soldiers, boost their self-confidence, and improve team and unit cohesiveness has already started.

AMAR’s structure will be advanced and fundamental training manuals. According to additional sources, these pamphlets will standardise the soldiers’ training for unarmed warfare.

This step shall go a long way in ensuring enhanced offensive, aggressive and proactive warfighting abilities at the tactical level,” the Indian Army said.
