Indian Junior team to compete at the Ju-Jitsu world Championship in Abu Dhabi

The Indian Junior team is all set to compete at the Ju-Jitsu World championships in Abu Dhabi. The event, which will be held from 1st March to 5th March, will see participation from seven Indian junior level fighters.

The Championships will cover the Under 18 and Under 21 categories. As per the schedule, the teams will arrive at the event on 28th February. On March 1st, the registration process, the weigh-ins and the draw of all categories will be held. This will be followed by the opening ceremony on March 2nd.

Below is the list of Indian representatives at the event.

  • Rahat Shakeel (Jammu and Kashmir)
  • Mehsheed Bhat (Jammu and Kashmir)
  • Dev (Haryana)
  • Roopal Jain (Rajasthan)
  • Kartik Verma (Uttar Pradesh)
  • Rahul Bhatia (Uttar Pradesh)
  • Ishaan Tuli (Delhi)

All the seven fighters will be competing in the Ne-Waza event when everyone except Dev and Ishaan will be competing in the fighting system as well. Kartik, meanwhile, will compete in the Para event and the regular event.

As for the juniors’ event, in the men’s category, the competition will be held in seven weight categories while the women’s competition will be held in five weight categories. There will also be an aspirants’ event during the championship and it will cover eight weight categories for both women and men.

Senior World Championships to be held in July

Following the juniors event, the Ju-Jitsu World Championships for seniors will take place in July. India is expected to send a strong team for the event as well.

The Indian Ju-Jitsu fighters will be heading into these upcoming tournaments on the back of the recently concluded National Ju-Jitsu Championships.

The event, which took place in Kochi last month, saw hosts Kerala come out on top. The tournament also saw the participation of many notable Indian MMA fighters such as Chaitanya Gavali, Susovan Ghosh, Farhan Siddique, Balakrishna Shetty, Akshata Khadtare, Priya Sharma, Navdeep Aggarwal, Manthan Rane, Basavesh, Kajal Naresh Kumar, and Sunny Khatri among others.
