Since joining ONE Championship over a year ago, Indian Wrestling Champion Roshan Mainam has displayed very impressive ground skills when competing in the loaded bantamweight division.

During his promotional debut at ONE: MASTERS OF FATE in November 2019, Roshan Mainam stunned mixed martial arts fans by submitting KWC Flyweight Champion Khon Sichan via Americana at 3:22 of the first round.

The win immediately sent a warning to the rest of the division and signaled what was expected to be a strong run on the global stage of martial arts.

But then COVID-19 hit and sent the martial arts world into lockdown, forcing Roshan Mainam to sit the sidelines and wait for restrictions to lift.

And when they did, he picked up right where he’d left off.

In October 2020, eleven months after entering ONE, the talented Indian nailed another submission finish – this time with a deep rear-naked choke of ONE Hefei Flyweight Tournament Champion Liu Peng Shuai in the second round at ONE: REIGN OF DYNASTIES.

Roshan Mainam prepared for step up in competition in 2021

Despite scorching two opponents in just as many bouts, it’s still too early to say whether Mainam is ready to face a top-five bantamweight contender, but the outcomes of his matchups proved that he’s prepared for a step up in competition during 2021.

In order to stay ready for tougher rivals, Roshan Mainam has been working on his grappling explosiveness at his second home in Singapore – Evolve MMA.

Recently, his team in “The Lion City” posted a video on Instagram of Mainam throwing around a grappling dummy, and it quickly became evident why the Indian standout is so devastating on the ground.

As we move into the new year, the only question is whether Mainam will be able to showcase his growing ground game against another grappler – and if we’re lucky, we’ll find out that answer soon.
