Puja Tomar, India’s 1st women in the UFC and now, India’s 1st fighter to win in the UFC returned home a few days ago. And Indian MMA fans gave her the welcome she deserves.
Tomar made history with her split decision win over Rayannedos Santos at the UFC Fight Night event on 9th June 2024. After her win, an emotional Puja thanked God and gave a strong message to the world about the arrival of Indian MMA.

Puja Tomar’s 1st UFC fight
Puja was signed by the UFC early this year and made her debut against Santos. After grueling 3 rounds of ups and down, Tomar was announced the winner by Split Decision.
Puja Tomar in Indian MMA and Beyond
A native of Bijrol in Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, Puja’s combat sports journey began with wushu, where she excelled and won five national titles.
After fighting in several promotions including the SFL and ONE Championship, Puja’s MMA journey gained momentum when she joined the Matrix Fight Night (MFN) in 2021. Her impressive four consecutive wins culminated in her claiming the MFN strawweight title in November 2022.
And now this UFC win puts her on top of the Indian MMA world.
