Demetrious Johnson isn’t interested in the pound for pound discussion, still open for a super fight

Interview with Demetrious Johnson and henry Cejudo -MMA fans have seen a long list of dominant champions. From Fedor’s legendary run, to GSP’s
dominance at welterweight in the UFC, quite a number of fighters have made their case to be
included in the pound – for – pound greatest fighter of all time list. However, you could argue that no
one in their weight class have been more dominant, or as resourceful as Demetrious ‘Mighty
Mouse’ Johnson.

The current UFC flyweight kingpin will put his crown on the line once again at UFC 227, when he
faces a familiar opponent in Henry Cejudo. The last time Henry faced Mighty Mouse, he was
quickly put out of his misery, as the champion added yet another name to his hit – list.

However, since his loss to Benavidez, Cejudo has made a lot of improvements in his game, and
his striking has evolved over time. A perfect example of Cejudo’s evolution could be seen during
his fight with Reis, and Mighty Mouse has been keeping tabs on his former dance partner, knowing
that their paths would eventually cross once again.

“The changes (he has made) have been good”, Demetrious told us, while dwelling on the
improvements in Cejudo’s game. “He has made some improvements with his striking, but other
than that, I haven’t seen much more, but we will find that out on Saturday.”

Demetrious is also considered by many to be the pound for pound best fighter on the planet. With
DJ already creating history in terms of the number of successful title defenses, he still finds himself
in the co – main event of a pay – per – view.

However, DJ doesn’t care about his place on the card, and is focused on getting the job done.
“I’m just focused on going out there and getting the job done, because it’s not my place to say
where I stand in this whole pound for pound stuff. It’s up to the public to perceive.”

DJ may be facing Cejudo at UFC 227, but there are still questions being asked about him facing
the winner of TJ Dillashaw – Cody Garbrandt, for the UFC bantamweight title. With Daniel Cormier
recently becoming only the second “champ – champ” in the UFC, Mighty Mouse has the chance to
become the then dual champion in the promotion.

However, Johnson is only focusing on his upcoming fight — for now.

“That fight was offered to me when I got injured. They offered it to me and I got injured, got surgery
(done), and when the time came to fight again, my management’s stand point is that TJ got offered
to fight Cody for a brand new deal. So God bless him for taking the new deal to fight Cody.

Yeah (I’m still interested) if the money’s right. I’ve always been up front about it. I like to get a super
fight as everyone keeps talking about it. But if the money’s not there, then I keep doing what I am.
But obviously that’s up to my management. The team knows what I want. But until then, I’ll keep
fighting in the flyweight division and defending my title.”

Cejudo knows that he has to up his game if he were to defeat DJ, and as such, told us that he has
been working on every area of his game.

“I guess I’ve worked on every area, you could say. From the grappling aspect or even the wrestling
aspect and even striking; this game takes time, and that’s what I’ve done.”
