Last week, Conor McGregor and the UFC announced that he was pulling out of his scheduled fight against Michael Chandler at UFC 303. As per Dana White, the reason is an injury (nature of the injury was not revealed)

However, UFC/ESPN insider Chael Sonnen has a different take on the situation. During the latest episode of ESPN’s Good Guy/Bad Guy podcast, Sonnen gave a cryptic statement about the developments of the past week. And many people interpreted that McGregor’s withdrawal was not due to injury but rather because he’s currently in rehab dealing with substance abuse problems.

Chael Sonnen Makes Shocking Claims on Conor McGregor

In the show Sonnen stated, “McGregor’s not hurt. I don’t know if we’re making TV here, or how much we’re supposed to play along (with the idea that he pulled out of UFC 303 because of an injury). Conor McGregor is not injured, and it’s a very tough spot when he has the people that are coming out speaking for him that have been filled in, and they’ve all sworn to secrecy.”

“What incredible irony that both sides have these massive interests in alcohol (McGregor & Chandler owning liquor companies), and one side (McGregor) is in the middle of rehab for substance abuse, including alcohol.”

UFC CEO Dana White has consistently maintained that Conor McGregor’s withdrawal was due to injury, not negotiation tactics. However, Sonnen’s claim adds a new layer of intrigue to the situation. It will be interesting to see how things will unfold and whether the fight will actually materialize or not.
