UFC lightweight contender Islam Makhachev has called for his title shot after his latest first-round submission win over top lightweight contender Dan Hooker at UFC 267. Islam Makhachev fought Dan Hooker who replaced Rafael Dos Anjos on a month’s notice. The fight was a one sided win for Islam who took Dan Hooker in the early moment of the fight and then went on to submit him via kimura lock in the very first round. After the dominant win, Islam Makhachev didn’t shy away from calling his shot and he straight away took the mic and called out for a title shot and expressed his desire to fight for the lightweight championship.
After getting the win he expressed his interest in fighting the winner between the current lightweight champion Charles Oliveira and the no.1 contender Dustin Poirier. Islam Makhachev also talked about Dan Hooker and how he planned his fight at UFC 267.
“I feel good because I show my level – I don’t know how many minutes (it took),” Makhachev said at the UFC 267 post-fight news conference. “Now everybody going to talk like Hooker is an easy opponent, he don’t have grappling or wrestling. Hooker is tough. He beat a lot of wrestling, grappling guy took. He beat Gilbert Burns, many guys. I think I deserve now. When (Michael) Chandler beat Hooker they give him title fight. Why not (me)? I am ready, too. I’m here not to beat 15 people and fight. I have nine fights (in a row now).”
“They have to give me chance,” Makhachev said. “They have to give me chance.”
Islam Makhachev also gave his prediction for UFC 269 lightweight title fight.
“I think Poirier is gonna beat Oliveira,” Makhachev said. “Many things going to change in next couple months. That’s why I’m going to wait.”
Islam Makhachev is riding a nine-fight winning streak and now is just behind the champion inactive win streaks in the division.
