Former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya’s latest triumph has not been in the Octagon, but in the courtroom, as the charges in brass knuckles case against him are set to be dismissed, but only if Izzy stays out of trouble for the next six months.
Soon after his fight against Alex Pereira at UFC 281, Adesanya was arrested on November 16th at JFK airport for possession of brass knuckles. In New York state, brass knuckles are classified as illegal (class A misdemeanor) and its also illegal to carry them on person or in a luggage, which is the primary reason for Adesanya’s arrest.
Soon after the news of the arrest made headlines, a statement from Tim Simpson, which he released to Ariel Helwani, came on air, claiming that the knuckles were gifted to Adesanya by a fan. Simpson also added that the fighter was cooperative with the security about the possession of the weapon.
“Israel was handed a gift by a fan, which he put in his luggage. When flagged at the airport, Israel quickly disposed of the item, and cooperated with authorities. He has complied accordingly, with that the matter was dismissed and he is on his way home,”read the statement from Simpson.
Nearly a month later, the report made by TMZ Sports states that the charges against ‘The Last Stylebender’ have been dismissed by the Queen’s District Attorney’s Office, but a condition has been laid out on the fighter.
While the brass knuckles case isn’t active at the moment, the case can be brought back against Adesanya if he gets into any trouble with the law in the next six month. But if he manages to keep his nose clean during the time frame, the case will be fully dismissed.
One assurance is that Adesanya has never attracted attention for causing problems outside the Octagon, so it is expected that everything will be fine for the next six months and Izzy will not have major problems.
