Paulo Costa knows how to get his name in the mix for a title contention. He has been doing everything right till now – from defeating former challengers to talking his way to grab the attention of the current ones. And if everything goes as planned, Costa will get the title shot next.
But as of right now, the person who will be attempting to unify the titles is paying no heed to whatever Costa is saying. Adesanya and Costa have had quite a few verbal skirmishes between them. Both of them have mentioned each other’s names in interviews multiple times.
The Brazilian will be present at the clash between Adesanya and Whittaker. He has mentioned beforehand that he will be rooting for Adesanya to win. But that is only for one reason – so that he can get his hands on him for the undisputed middleweight crown.
Despite all the efforts from Costa to get into Adesanya’s head, the latter has mentioned his usual calm.
“Nothing gets in,” Adesanya told MMA Fighting on Wednesday during the UFC 243 media conference call. “I’m not even focused on him at the moment. I know I’m going to face him afterwards. He can try all he wants. Anyone can try.
“People have tried in the past to get at me during fight week, but look how I show out.”
As of now, Robert Whittaker remains the focal point of attention for the Kiwi. If he gets his hands raised, then there may be a possibility that he turns towards the man in the audience.
“It doesn’t really make a difference if he’s cage side, if he’s the referee – at the end of the day, I have a tough task ahead of me,” Adesanya said. “So that’s what I’m focused on right now.”
