Israel Adesanya, the former UFC Middleweight champ, has admitted to the charges of drunk driving in New Zealand on Monday.

As per the report from the New Zealand Herald, “Stylebender” was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. The reading was 87 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood, higher than the legal limit of 50 milligrams.
The outlet further reported that the incident allegedly took place on 19th August, weeks prior to Izzy facing Sean Strickland at UFC 293 in Sydney on 10th September.
After making an appearance in court, Adesanya apologized for the act, via a statement to the Herald.
“I want to apologize to the community, my family, and my team for the decision I made to get behind the wheel after drinking at dinner,” read the statement from Adesanya. “I was pulled over and gave an evidentiary blood test. The reading was 87 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood. I am disappointed with my decision to drive, It was wrong. I know that people might follow me and I want them to know I do not think this behavior is acceptable.”
In case Adesanya is convicted, he will get either one of the two maximum penalties for drunk driving- imprisonment of three months or a fine of $4500.
