UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya revealed that he gave a piece of advice to Paulo Costa after defeating him at UFC 253 in their middleweight title fight. That fight was Israel Adesanya’s second title defense. He won the fight in the second round via TKO. Paulo Costa after losing the fight made many excuses and one of them was that he drank too much wine prior to his fight against the champion Adesanya. Now Israel Adesanya has opened up on what followed after that fight. He stated that he messaged Costa and gave him some friendly advice after the fight. This is surprising to many fans as there was a lot of bad blood between both these fighters while going into their fight at UFC 253.
Talking on his youtube channel Israel Adesanya revealed what advice he gave to Costa. He asked Costa to change gyms.
“I DM’d him after the last fight, saying he should just switch up his team. Because he had too many people blowing smoke up his ass. Either that or take control of his team and realize, like, ‘Oh, I need to be amongst people that are better than me and not be the guy that’s running the show. I don’t feel like that’s the goal.”
Israel Adesanya also talked about Paulo Costa’s next fight in which he is facing Marvin Vettori. Israel also shared some tips for Costa which he feels might help him beat Vettori. According to Israel, Costa should go for the knockout and try to finish Vettori early in the fight.
“[He’s a] good striker,” Adesanya stated. “Costa’s path to victory in this fight? Get him out early. Do what you did to get to the dance, that got you this far, because you’re not fighting me, you’re fighting Vettori and he’s got sh*t footwork — even worse than you. I feel like Costa can just do what he does: just bull rush him, bulldoze him, but be careful of the takedowns because Vettori’s gonna try that, time that, and take him down.”
Israel Adesanya also went on to make remarks about Costa and Vettori both poping for illegal substance usage.
“They’ve both been popped for sh*t, that’s right, they’re both juicy boys,” Adesanya said on his YouTube channel (via MMAFighting). “They’ve both been popped, we need that to be known. These people forget so I need to remind people that, yeah, they’re both juicy boys.”
