You’ve Seen Where I Can Go To: Israel Adesanya Reveals Disappointment At TKO Stoppage Against Alex Pereira

Israel Adesanya, the recently dethroned former UFC Middleweight champ, is not very welcoming of the technical knockout awarded against him at UFC 281.

In the main event of UFC 281 last weekend, ‘The Last Stylebender’ went up against Alex Pereira, his former kickboxing rival and the only man ever to have knocked him out, and from kickboxing to MMA, that notion remains unchanged.

Israel Adesanya claims he was ‘fine’ even when referee stopped the fight

Despite going into the fight as a favourite and leading on the cards, Izzy suffered a brutal TKO defeat against ‘Poatan’, after the Brazilian unloaded barrage of punches on him in the fifth round, before referee Marc Goddard stepped in to stop the fight.

While suffering the first defeat in his middleweight title reign (second in his career), Adesanya has taken the loss sportingly. While he hasn’t come up with any excuses, the Nigerian did admit that he felt the fight should have continued, considering that Goddard has refereed his title fights before, where he continued despite the same scenario.

“I watched the sequence again, and I had my head down. When I have my head down, I’m still looking at him,” Adesanya said during a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, “I could see the knees, people were saying ‘What if the knee came up?’, I was looking at his feet. I was looking at the arms, couldn’t see his head, but when I know where your arms and feet are, I know where your head is… When he stopped it the first thing I did, ‘I’m fine ref, I’m fine, what the hell?’

Speaking of Goddard referring his fights, before, Adesanya recalled his UFC 236 clash against Kevin Galestum, the fight which made him the interim 185-pound champion before he unified the belt against Robert Whittaker at UFC 243.

“Again, I’m the champion, you’ve refereed,” the 33-year-old went on, “I don’t blame him, Marc is a good referee. I agree [he’s one of the best in the world], but you refereed the [Kelvin] Gastelum fight, you’ve seen where I can go to. You should have that kind of faith in me… It is what it is.” [H/T BJPenn.com]
