Israel Adesanya tells the UFC to give creative attire control to the fighters

UFC middleweight champ Israel Adesanya is one of the biggest stars the organisation has right now. His rise to stardom in a relatively short time in the organisation can be attributed to a lot of things. Obviously, his on point fighting game is on top of those things. Apart from that the Kiwi has been keeping his social media game on point as well. His recent spat with Jon Jones has been rather entertaining for the fans of the fight game.

In a recent interview with ESPN, Adesanya talked about how the dynamics are in the feud between him and Jones. The 185 pound kingpin feels that he is the one with the leverage right now. As a result, Jones must be willing to drop to 185 pounds if he wants to fight him.

“I already said if he wants to fight me now, he has to come to 185, come see the champ. I don’t really need him for my career to be great. He needs me because he has no one else to fight. What’s the big fight for him now? I have a lot of work to do at 185 first, some tough guys I have to defend my belt against. There are, like, four guys I feel I have to get through. And then I’m going to jump in weight class and then take care of him.”

Adesanya is not a fan of going for the big money fight. He wants to take care of his own division first. He doesn’t want to keep the division waiting like former champ Robert Whittaker did. Instead he wants to go down upon the path laid by Anderson Silva. Just like the greatest middleweight champ of all time in Silva, Adesanya too wants to clear the entire division first.

Israel also discussed upon what the UFC should do in order to bring about reforms in the organisation. He wants the fighters to be allowed to chose their own uniform along with raising the pay of some lower -tier fighters and increasing the bonus.

“Definitely give fighters control of the uniform. I understand you want to have the fight kit — yeah, cool story, bro — but let fighters have creative control of the design of their shorts, of their attire. At least let the certain marquee guys, the guys in the top 10 maybe, have control of their attire.

“Definitely pay some of the lower-tier fighters a little bit more. Because sometimes they’re losing money. They fly extra cornermen in. They have to survive camp. I’m not saying pay them hundreds of thousands, just saying a little bit more, so they can take care of those costs.

“Raise the bonus. It’s time. It’s been that way for a long time, $50K. It’s nice — don’t get me wrong — especially when you convert it to New Zealand dollars, but I think it’s time to bump it up to, like, $80K. And then for, like, special events, like the one I just had, the stadium show [for UFC 243 before a record live crowd in Australia], bump it to like $120K U.S.”

Adesanya also added the names of his next probable opponents, Paulo Costa and Yoel Romero, to the list of the fighters he thinks are the most overrated.

I wouldn’t say overrated, but Romero and Costa. I think people are still fooled. The casuals, even a lot of experts who are supposed to be experts with a casual brain, they see the impressive things they do. But they miss a lot of the mistakes they make. As a fighter, as a hunter, I see a lot of the mistakes they make. I wouldn’t say they’re overrated but very vulnerable. And I’m like, don’t bring that s— to me because I will take advantage. I will jump on them real quickly. I look forward to fighting both of them at their respective times.”
