Jacare Souza's life back to normal after testing positive for COVID-19

UFC middleweight fighter Jacare Souza has finally given an update on himself after testing positive for COVID-19 before his fight at UFC 249.

One of the top middleweight fighters in the UFC ‘Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza tested positive for COVID-19 before his fight against Uriah Hall at UFC 249. Jacare is on a two-fight losing streak in the UFC’s stacked middleweight division. He has faced back to back losses to Jan Blachowicz and Jack Hermansson.

Jacare was going to fight Uriah Hall at UFC 249 but tested positive just a few days before the fight. Souza notified the UFC that he’d been in contact with a family member who had COVID-19. Souza wore gloves and a mask at the weigh-ins of UFC 249 and was visibly distant from Hall at the face-offs. But a couple of hours later, Souza was notified that he tested positive.

While talking to Sherdog, Jacare opened up on his life after being tested positive for COVID-19 and how his life has been since. He said:

“I’m good. I’m in Vegas to work at the UFC P.I. I have an injury in my shoulder. In a couple of weeks, I will be good,” Souza said.“As you know, I got COVID-19 but I was asymptomatic. I have no symptoms. I just stayed home in quarantine and waited for the virus to leave my body. When I got my negative COVID-19 test, it looks like my life is back to normal.”

Jacare was also asked about who he would like to fight when he comes back to which he replied “I’d like revenge against Kelvin Gastelum or Robert Whittaker. I believe that fight’s going to be good for me,” Souza said. “(But) I believe it’s not going to happen.”

The Brazilian legend is getting up there in age and at 40 he is one of the oldest fighters in the UFC right now. However, Souza still plans on fighting for three more years.“My body’s good. I believe that I can fight for three years”, he said.

Souza lost a split decision to Gastelum at the UFC 224 and was finished by Whittaker at UFC on FOX 24. Whittaker booked against Jared Cannonier next, Souza realizes he isn’t likely to get that fight next. Working in “Jacare’s” favour is the fact that Gastelum has also lost four of his last six and is no longer ranked in the Top 5, so the fight with Kelvin Gastelum could easily be made.
