Jack Della Maddalena, the promising Australian mixed martial artist, has faced a challenging setback on his journey to the top. In a candid statement, he revealed the details of his recent health struggles, which unfortunately led to his withdrawal from UFC 305 in Perth. Let’s delve into the timeline of events and Jack’s unwavering determination:
Just one week after his fight at UFC 299, Jack underwent surgery on his arm. The specifics of the procedure remain undisclosed, but it marked the beginning of a tumultuous period.
Ten days post-surgery, Jack Della Maddalena noticed that his wound had started splitting. This alarming development signaled a potential infection. He wasted no time and sought medical attention promptly.
Jack Della Maddalena said “Had surgery on my arm 1 week after 299. 10 days later my wound had began splitting. Which was indicative of infection. Went in for surgery 2 as believed to be infection present, bone cleaned plate replaced, stayed in hospital for 9 days on IV antibiotics then moved to oral antibiotics”
Believing that an infection was indeed present, Jack underwent a second surgery. During this procedure, the medical team cleaned the affected bone and replaced the plate. The subsequent days were spent in the hospital, receiving intravenous antibiotics.
Jack Della Maddalena will undergo another surgery soon. The medical team removed infected tissue and, regrettably, some infected bone. His path to recovery involves additional surgeries to eliminate any remaining infected tissue over the next week.
Jack’s withdrawal from UFC 305 in Perth was undoubtedly a difficult choice. As an athlete, missing out on a major event is akin to swallowing a bitter pill. However, his health takes precedence.
The Road Ahead For Jack Della Maddalena
Jack’s current focus is on recovery. He aims to rid his body of the infection and allow the bone to heal naturally. If all goes well, Jack anticipates being back at 100% in approximately 12 weeks.
“At the moment I am focused on recovery, Ridding my body of infection and allowing the bone to mend. planning to get my arm back to 100% which if all goes well will be in 12 weeks time”
Despite the setbacks, Jack remains motivated. He still harbors the desire to compete before the year’s end. The fight he believes is the toughest and most meaningful awaits him.
