The UFC has moved a highly-anticipated heavyweight matchup between Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Ciryl Gane into the main event slot on Feb. 27, multiple sources confirmed to ESPN on Tuesday.

UFC news: Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Ciryl Gane to headline Feb. 27 event

Ciryl Gane (7-0 MMA, 4-0- UFC) will take on Jairzinho Rozenstruik (11-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night on Feb 27. The heavyweight fight was originally targeted for a card on March 13. However, the UFC changed it to a five-round headliner at UFC Fight Night on Feb. 27, after the earlier event’s original main event, a light heavyweight contest between Dominick Reyes and Jiri Prochazka, was postponed.

Rozenstruik broke the news himself on social media, and sources confirmed to ESPN that the promotion plans to finalize and announce the bout.

Ladies and gentlemen, my fight against Ciryl Gane got rescheduled for February 27,” Rozenstruik wrote on Twitter. “[Five rounds by five minutes], main card. Spread the word!

On Saturday morning, the former RIZIN champion revealed the bout with the multi-time UFC title challenger has been postponed as Reyes was injured. Rozenstruik and Gane are both on the upswing after beating a common opponent: Junior Dos Santos. Rozenstruik faced off with the ex-champ this past August at UFC 252 and picked up a second-round TKO to bounce back from a knockout loss to Francis Ngannou in his previous appearance. Gane fought Dos Santos this past month at UFC 256 and also earned a second-round stoppage.

Gane continued his rise up the heavyweight rankings when he dispatched former UFC heavyweight champion, Junior Dos Santos, at UFC 256. After stopping Dos Santos, the undefeated Frenchman told MMA Junkie that he was interested in a matchup with Rozenstruik, which ended up quickly materializing. “Bon Gamin” is currently undefeated in his combat sports career with finishes over Raphael Pessoa and Don’Tale Mayes, just to name a few.

Rozenstruik (11-1) jumped out to 10 straight wins in his mixed martial arts (MMA) career, culminating in consecutive knockout wins over longtime veterans Andrei Arlovski and Alistair Overeem. Unfortunately, his march to the 265-pound title would be halted by the fists of top contender Francis Ngannou, but “Bigi Boy” got right back into the win column with a second-round finish against ex-heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos.

The Surinamese competitor likes the matchup with Gane and has been quite impressed with what his opponent has been doing so far in the UFC.

“I think he’s a good fighter; he’s phenomenal,” Rozenstruik recently told MMA Junkie. “He’s doing his thing, he’s winning his fights, so my respect he’s got. I’m going to face him. This is a whole different fight. For me, every fight I fight, it’s a big fight, it’s a championship fight. I go with that mindset, and of course, I want to get my hand raised.

“He’s a heavyweight that likes to move. I think that’s a positive thing for him. As heavyweights, we tend to stand and not move too much, and he has this ability to move around. I don’t know what fight he’s going to bring, but you know how it is. We get opponent, we train and try to win our fights.”
