Jake Paul to donate $10K to UFC fighter Mike Malott’s fundraiser for his coach’s daughter suffering from stage 3 lymphoma

Jake Paul may not be that much of a fan favourite amongst the majority of combat sports followers, but the YouTuber-turned-pro boxer has recently taken a commendable step by pledging $10K to Mike Mallot, the newcomer UFC featherweight who has launched a fundraiser and donated half of his own earnings for the treatment of his coach’s 15-year-old daughter who is suffering from stage three lymphoma.

The UFC is often on the accusations of unfair pay to its fighters, and Mike Malott is one of the lowest-paid fighters on the roster of the MMA top drawer promotion. The 23-year-old, who made his Octagon debut at UFC 273 with a victory against Mickey Gall, made only $10K to show and another $10K for the victory, which is the basic salary package at the UFC.

However, the Canadian fighter decided to donate his show purse to his coach Joey Rodriguez, whose daughter Angie is battling stage three lymphoma, and in the post-fight conference, revealed that many fans handed him money on the way out of the Octagon.

“I’m like ‘look man, I could use the money but they could use it a hell of a lot more than I could’,” said Malott, “They need this money, I wanna make sure they get the best doctors and best medicine money can buy, so they can kick this thing’s a**.”

“I want to quickly say thank you so much to the fans of this sport who, as I’m walking out of the cage, handed me a wad of cash to donate to their fight against cancer. You have no idea how much it means to me and my team.” [H/T DailyMail]

Upon knowing Malott’s generous move, Jake, who is a known critic of UFC’s pay structure, took to Twitter to reveal that he himself, along with anti-bullying charity Boxing Bullies would also be pledging $10K for his fundraiser, as well as congratulating him for the knockout win over Gall.

“Mike Malott congrats on the win. Count me and Boxing Bullies in for $10K. F*** cancer and f*** s****y fighter pay'” tweeted ‘The Problem Child’ following UFC 273.

Malott’s kind act did not go unseen by Dana White as well. After UFC 273, the promotion president said that the fighter can keep his fight purse as he would donate both Malott’s show and win bonus, i.e $20k to his coach.

“He looked good, the kid looked good. He’s fun to watch, he can keep his $10,000 and I’ll donate both his show and win [money] to his coach,” said White. [H/T DailyMail]
