Jake Paul says Ben Askren fights like a middle-aged Dutch woman

Jake Paul, the internet personality turned pro boxer, has his next fight set, and this time he’ll be competing against an actual professional fighter which is no other than former Bellator champion Ben Askren.

Jake Paul will face former UFC fighter Ben Askren in an eight-round pro boxing match on April 17, Triller co-founder Ryan Kavanaugh told ESPN. The fight will take place under the Triller Fight Club banner and will serve as the main event. The location of the event, which will air on traditional pay-per-view platforms, hasn’t been finalized yet.

The full card, which is expected to feature familiar names from the world of boxing, present, and past, as well as other social media celebrities and MMA fighters all competing in boxing matches, will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Ben Askren was never renowned for his striking during his career, but the entire MMA community is hoping he can come through his fight with Jake Paul. Askren has never boxed professionally before, although he did hold world titles with both Bellator and ONE Fighting Championship after his incredibly successful wrestling career.

Despite his experience in the cage, some fear the 36-year-old could well be out of his depth against a YouTube star with just three rounds of professional boxing experience behind him. Paul knocked out former NBA star Nate Robinson in November and is even training with UFC star Jorge Masvidal, who knocked Askren out in five seconds in 2019.

However, despite getting a customized punching bag with Jake Paul’s face on it for motivation, there are some fans on Twitter who fear as though the Olympian could well be on the receiving end of an embarrassing defeat.

Jake Paul and Ben Askren trash talk

Neither Jake Paul nor Ben Askren is afraid of a bit of trash talk. A good portion of the appeal is likely the verbal slams and personalities involved — the fight certainly isn’t being sold on their boxing abilities.

Still, roughly two months away from the fight itself, the trash talk has been continually flowing. Speaking with TMZ Sports, Jake was thankful for Askren’s help with promotion … before immediately burying the wrestler and his recent heavy bag workout.

“It’s funny, bro. I’m starting to like Ben, oddly enough,” Jake Paul said (transcription via BJPenn.com). “He’s funny. He’s entertaining me right now. I thought that was hilarious. I thought, ‘Bro, what are you doing?’ Like what is that? And it looks like his hands are so small. It looks like he has tiny hands in that video.”

“Hopefully, he’s just joking. Hopefully, he’s just trolling. But Ben’s doing a good job to promote the fight, but it doesn’t change the fact that I’m going to knock him out in one round. This guy fights and looks like a middle-aged Dutch woman.”
