Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill recently withdrew from the once-planned UFC 303 co-main event against Carlos Ulberg. His decision was more than warranted, considering the extent of his injuries.

Hill (12-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) had hoped for a quick turnaround after his UFC 300 main event loss to Alex Pereira. However, a series of injuries forced him to step aside. Here’s what he revealed about his condition:

  1. Two Meniscus Tears: Hill suffered tears in both menisci of one knee.
  2. Sprained ACL: His ACL was sprained.
  3. Baker’s Cyst: He also had a Baker’s Cyst that leaked fluid in the back of his knee.

Despite this setback, the 33-year-old fighter remains optimistic about his future. Jamahal Hill shared the details on social media, stating– “2 tears in my meniscus, sprained my ACL a Baker Cyst that leaked fluid in the back of my knee and a infusion in some joints!!! There were actually 3 of these. This is only making me hungrier. Be back soon!!!”

Jamahal Hill’s UFC Career

Hill began his professional MMA career in 2017, amassing a 5–0 record. Notably, he defeated future UFC fighter Dequan Townsend despite Townsend’s extensive pro experience.

In 2019, Jamahal Hill secured his UFC contract by winning on Dana White’s Contender Series. Hill made his UFC debut on January 25, 2020, defeating Darko Stošić via unanimous decision.

He faced Klidson Abreu in May 2020, initially winning by technical knockout but later having the result overturned due to a positive marijuana test. Hill rebounded with a second-round technical knockout victory against Ovince Saint Preux in December 2020.

His turning point came in February 2022 when he headlined a UFC Fight Night against Johnny Walker, securing a first-round knockout victory. Hill’s hard work paid off, and he climbed to No. 7 in the light heavyweight rankings by the end of 2022.

He recently suffered an unexpected defeat at the hands of Alex Pereira but he is looking to overcome the shortcomings and prove himself as soon as he is completely fit.
