Jamahal Hill wants to leave no stone unturned in his recovery from the Achilles injury he recently sustained, and has decided to undergo surgery from the same surgeon who operated on basketball legend Kobe Bryant.
Jamahal Hill seeking Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who operated on Bryant’s Achilles injury
Last week, Hill made a shocking revelation that he was vacating his UFC Light Heavyweight title after suffering a rupture in his Achilles during a recent basketball game with color commentator and former two division champion Daniel Cormier.
The injury and the following recovery period is expected to keep him out of action for quite some time and for this reason, “Sweet Dreams” took the decision to vacate the 205-pound belt, following the footsteps of Jiri Prochazka.
“I’ve been playing basketball for my entire life,” said Hill in a recent video on his YouTube channel on Tuesday. “It’s a workout that I enjoy. It’s a thing that I use for cardio and to cut weight and things like that. I’ve been doing it for forever. It’s just one of those things, and it just happened. So at that point, it is what it is. A ruptured Achilles can happen a number of ways, and it just so happened to be done this way.”
In opting for which surgeon would be operating on his injury, Hill chose orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who is the team doctor for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Rams and who is also identified as MLB’s top 100 most powerful people, and has operated on several high-profile athletes and celebs, including UFC stars like Conor McGregor, Georges St-Pierre and Francis Ngannou.
However, Hill specifically mentioned Kobe Bryant’s example, the legendary Lakers icon and five time NBA champion who was one of the athletes Dr. ElAttrache performed surgery upon.
“He’s the same doctor that repaired Kobe Bryant’s Achilles back when he ruptured his Achilles,” Hill went on. “He’s repaired Kelsey Plum’s Achilles, and you’ve seen how she’s come back. The most notable one was the Cam Akers injury. As you know, Cam Akers ruptured his Achilles in the preseason and Dr. ElAttrache and his team was able to have Cam Akers back in five and a half months. He played in the Super Bowl.”
“Not saying that’s the progress that I’m expecting to have, but I’m just saying I’m in the best hands possible. The UFC has taken care of me, giving me everything that I needed and letting me know that whatever I need is at my disposal, so I appreciate them for that,” he added. [H/T MMA Junkie]
