Alex Pereira is all set to make a move up to light heavyweight and will be getting a grand welcome from the division’s reigning champion, Jamahal Hill.
“Poatan” most recently engaged in a rematch with longtime rival Israel Adesanya in the main event at UFC 287 last Saturday night in Miami. After going 3-0 over Izzy across their past fights in both kickboxing and MMA, “Stylebender” finally avenged his loss from UFC 281 and regained his status as the UFC Middleweight champion.
Soon afterwards, words were out in the air about Pereira making a potential jump up to 205 for his next fight, including confirmation from the UFC prez Dana White himself, who said that he “would bet anything he moves to 205″.
Now, upon confirmation of Pereira making the move to Light Heavyweight, the reigning 205-pound champ Jamahal Hill welcomed the Brazilian in the division through an Instagram post.
“Welcome can’t wait to see you Alex Pereira,” Hill posted.

Pereira himself had a response ready for Hill, as his Instagram story read, “I am coming and will kick your door in.”
Hill clinched the Light Heavyweight gold at UFC 283 back in January. The title was left vacant by Jiri Prochazka, who is on a lengthy recovery from a shoulder injury. The 205pound belt was contested between Hill, and the former titleholder Glover Teixeira, with Hill winning the fight via unanimous decision.
While there’s yet no word on who “Sweet Dreams” will face next for his title defense, facing another Brazilian in Pereira could very well be the fight both Hill as well as Pereira look forward to, provided that Pereira has the chances to earn a direct shot at the title on making his 205-pound debut.
