UFC lightweight James Vick has decided to move up to 170 pounds. The decision came just four days after his brutal knockout loss at the hands of Dan Hooker at UFC on ESPN 4.

In a rather long Facebook post, Vick started by talking about being the man and setting an example in front of his kids. While in the long term of things, the 6’3″ Vick plans to continue fighting but its the short term things that are not in his favor.

“Realizing fighting is not the most important thing in life has been the best but worse thing to ever happen to me. Definitely long term will be the best thing for me but right now short term has been the worse thing ever in my career and has did nothing but take my mind and focus off of fighting.”

James then went on to slowly move towards the issue of weight cuts. He said that the main reason for the move are his difficult weight cuts. Despite the excruciating weight cuts, Vick doesn’t put the blame of his recent setback on the weight class.

“To update everyone I will be moving up to 170 next fight. Cutting weight is not easy and has really sucked these past few yrs. However I WILL NOT do what so many others have done and blame my loses on weight cuts or use it as a crutch.”

Vick praised his long time nutritionist George Lockhart for his diet routines. He accepted the fact that he had himself chided away from following the routine at some point.  A veteran of “The Ultimate Fighter”, Vick took a sarcastic dig at all the “mma couch watching professionals”, saying that they will now be happy.
