In UFC Fight Night 142 we observed a stoppage in a featherweight division session between the debutants in Sodiq Yusuff and Suman Mokhtarian. Only two minutes and fourteen seconds into round one, referee Greg Kleynjans stopped the fight, thus making Sodiq Yusuff the winner of the match. Amid the post-match talk with, Sodiq dedicated his win to his elder sibling, who passed away a week ago.
Sodiq ‘Super’ Yusuff right now contends in the featherweight division for the UFC.
Yusuff had some words after the fight.
“With everything going on I focussed by blocking everything out going into this fight, that’s the only reason I am able to hold back the tears,” Yusuff said. “I know it’s not very healthy to do that, I am into positive mental health but I had to do it just for this one, for my debut fight in the UFC. This is worth a whole lot more and I know my brother would have wanted me to put my full attention on this. When I get home I’ll have a little more time to breathe. I visualized a clean knockout, but I’ll take a referee’s stoppage. My shots were hard, I land hard shots.”
James Vick was particularly excited about his friend winning and even thanked the UFC for giving Yusuff a bonus.
