Jan Blachowicz, the former UFC Light Heavyweight champion has solidified his place at the top of the division’s pecking order, but revealed that he is still eyeing a contest against the legendary Jon Jones.
Jan Blachowicz confident about getting a first round KO of Jon Jones
During his rise through the other 205-pounders and before clinching the title, Jan Blachowicz already had his eye on a Jon Jones fight. After his rematch against Corey Anderson at UFC Fight Night 167 back in February 2020, Blachowicz had called out “Bones” for a fight, who was present cageside.
Even though the then Light Heavyweight champion nodded to face the Pole, Jones instead decided to move up to heavyweight, and Blachowicz instead clashed against Dominick Reyes for the vacant 205-pound title and won.
However, after his first title defense against Middleweight champ Israel Adesanya, Blachowicz’s short title reign ended after he went down against Glover Teixeira in October last year at UFC 267, but he came back to winning ways against Aleksandar Rakic at UFC Vegas 54 last month.
While Blachowicz has shown interest in facing the current champion Jiri Prochazka up next, the 39-year-old hasn’t forgotten about his longtime interest in taking on Jones, and at a fan Q&A during UFC 275 fight week in Singapore, said that he’s not only open for the fight, but will also score a first round KO against Jones.
“I don’t know, this is not a question for me. I’m always open for this fight, but he’s not,” said Blachowicz.
“I will knock him out. First round,” he added. [H/T MMA Junkie]
Jones, right now, is gearing up for his much awaited heavyweight debut, which is expected to take place later this year against Stipe Miocic. However, in case things don’t fall into place and Jones is back to his original division, he will find a ready and prepared contender in Blachowicz.
