Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz has opened up about his much-talked win over UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. Jan Blachowicz is the only man to defeat the UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya in a mixed martial arts setting. UFC 259 took place on March 6, 2021, at the UFC Apex facility in Enterprise, Nevada, part of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Area, United States. The event was headlined by a champion vs champion fight between Jan Blachowicz defending his title against Israel. The fight was a back and forth battle between two of the elite strikers but it was Jan’s wrestling that made a significant difference in the matchup and gave him a heavy advantage over Israel. Jan won the fight via decision and defended his belt successfully against the middleweight champion.
In one of the latest interviews with Jan Blachowicz, he talked about his dominant performance over Israel and how Israel wasn’t able to do much in their fight as he usually does against his middleweight opponents.
“It was because I’m Jan Blachowicz, they are not,” Blachowicz said. “This is the biggest difference. In this fight, I took my legendary Polish power with me. That’s it. This is the secret, legendary Polish power. If I don’t forget it in the hotel room I beat everybody. If I forget it, not.” – said Jan Blachowicz to Sportsnaut (h/t MMANews)
Israel Adesanya after facing that loss fought against Paulo Costa. He defeated Costa by TKO in the second round. He then defeated Marvin Vettori by decision. In his last fight, he fought Robert Whittaker in a rematch and defeated him via decision.
On the other hand, Jan Blachowicz is coming off a loss against Glover Texeira. The fight was a dominant win for Glover as he outclassed Jan Blachowicz in all aspects of the game. He landed good shots on Jan before submitting him in the second round of the fight. Jan’s last win was against Israel.
Jan Blachowicz was scheduled to face Aleksandar Rakic on March 26, 2022 at UFC Fight Night 205. But, in January Błachowicz withdrew from the fight due to an injury, and the matchup is postponed till further announcement.
Jan Blachowicz was asked about his next opponent to which he revealed he has no interest in fighting Smith instead he wants to fight Rakic.
“I cannot tell you but I will not fight against Anthony Smith,” Blachowicz said while revealing that the UFC had given him another name. “I don’t choose opponents. Maybe [they asked about Aleksandar Rakic].”
“It’s a good fight,” Blachowicz said about Rakic. “He’s a strong, real fighter. All fighters in the UFC, top 10, top five, they are amazing fighters, and it’s a pleasure for me to fight against all of them. Rakic is good for the next fight but we will see.”
