Jiri Prochazka has just become the new UFC Light Heavyweight world champion, and none other than the former titleholder Jan Blachowicz wants to make an attempt to regain his belt, in a fight he terms as “The Battle for Europe”.
Jan Blachowicz calls for “The biggest fight in the Continent’s history” against Jiri Prochazka
The headlining event of UFC 275 which took place in Singapore this Sunday saw an adrenaline rushing back and forth contest between Glover Teixeira and Jiri Prochazka, with the latter emerging as the new 205-pound champion with a fifth round submission on the veteran Brazilian.
Soon after the fight, Prochazka was called out by the former divisional champion Jan Blachowicz, as the Polish fighter took to Twitter to throw a challenge at his Czech neighbour for Europe’s biggest fight.
“Jiri, let’s do this! The Battle for Europe. The biggest fight in the Continent’s history. @jiri_bjp @ufc @UFCEurope #UFC275” tweeted Blachowicz.

While Blachowicz, being the no 1 ranked fighter in the division, is a strong contender for the Light Heavyweight title as he hopes to clinch gold for a second time, chances are there that Prochazka’s next fight becomes a rematch with Teixeira, as the veteran fighter also called for a second encounter with Prochazka after UFC 275.

However, there’s also the possibility that neither Blachowicz nor Teixeira are Prochazka’s next opponent, as the UFC president Dana White recently told Spinnin Backfist that the next challenger in line for the 205-pound title will be the winner of No. 4-ranked fighter Magomed Ankalaev and No. 5-ranked Anthony Smith, the bout which is set to take place at UFC 277 on 30th July in Dallas, Texas.
