Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jan Blchowicz will be returning back to the action as he will be facing the top-ranked contender Aleksander Rakic at the UFC FIGHT NIGHT event taking place on March 26. The fight is in consideration at the moment and the UFC is trying to make it a done deal. The was matchup was first reported by Ariel Helwani. Jan Blachowicz also hinted towards a potential fight with Aleksander Rakic during his conversation on MMA HOUR.
Jan Blachowicz lost his light-heavyweight title during his second title defense against Glover Teixeira at UFC 267 which took place just two months back. The fight was a dominant win for Glover as he outclassed Jan Blachowicz at all aspects of the game. He landed good shots on Jan before submitting him in the second round of the fight. Prior to that loss, Jan had defended his light-heavyweight title against UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.
Aleksander Rakic is 6-1 in the UFC with just one close loss to Volkan. He is riding a two-fight win streak at the moment and is ranked no.3 in the UFC light-heavyweight rankings. In his last fight, he defeated former title challenger Thiago Santos via decision. He was rooting for a shot at the title but his title opportunity was tasked by the no.2 ranked light-heavyweight Jiri Prochazka.
Jan Blahcowicz during his conversation with Helwani talked about his last fight and also revealed who he wants to face next after losing his title to Glover.
“Everything goes wrong,” Blachowicz said about the fight with Teixeira on The MMA Hour. “I shouldn’t fight that night but what can I do? I can just go back to the training, back to the gym, train harder and try to get the belt back and that’s it. I’m not going to be sad. I’m not going to be thinking about the fight cause I don’t want to waste my life about something like this. I think about the fight, why it goes wrong but I don’t waste time for to be sad. I will not hide under the bed and cry.”
“Do a little bit of a break, go on the holidays, vacation and now I’m back to the gym, back to the work. That’s it.”
Jan Blachowicz was asked about his next opponent to which he revealed he has no interest in fighting Smith instead he wants to fight Rakic.
“I cannot tell you but I will not fight against Anthony Smith,” Blachowicz said while revealing that the UFC had given him another name. “I don’t choose opponents. Maybe [they asked about Aleksandar Rakic].”
“It’s a good fight,” Blachowicz said about Rakic. “He’s a strong, real fighter. All fighters in the UFC, top 10, top five, they are amazing fighters, and it’s a pleasure for me to fight against all of them. Rakic is good for the next fight but we will see.”
