It’s hard to believe how cruel the MMA gods can be at times. What earlier looked like a mouth-watering light heavyweight clash has now lost both the fighters of the main event.
Jimi Manuwa and Glover Teixeira were set to meet up in UFC Sao Paulo. It was Teixeira who went out earlier with a shoulder injury in mid August. Thiago Santos was brought in as a replacement. However, now it’s the other half as well that has suffered a setback. Jimi Manuwa has now moved out of the main event with an undisclosed injury.
Stepping in on, on just six days notice, in place of Manuwa is Eryk Anders, as confirmed by multiple people who have knowledge of the booking to MMA Junkie.
UFC officials have not yet made a formal announcement for the change of the card which takes place Saturday at Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo.
Coincidentally, Anders’ first UFC main event was in Brazil, too. In February, he dropped a split decision to former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. It was the first loss of his pro career. However, Anders will be looking to erase the memory of the setback when he meets Santos.
