UFC light-heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka is likely to face Glover Teixeira in a rematch. It was Teixeira, who the new champion wanted to face. Last month, Prochazka released a video on social media and asked for a rematch with the Brazilian. He stated that he believed he could do better in a second outing with Teixeira. It seems that the video clip impressed UFC. MMAFighting reported that the promotion was working on the rematch. It has been also noted that the bout is nearly official, as both men have had a verbal agreement.
Jiri Prochazka vs. Glover Teixeira 2 is likely to take place
The outlet reported that the clash between Jiri Prochazka and Glover Teixeira will take place again with the light heavyweight title going up for grabs at UFC 282 on December 10. They noted:
“Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed the news to MMA Fighting with verbal agreements in place from both athletes.”
The card doesn’t have an official location yet, though it’s likely the card will happen at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The timing of the fight was decided after the UFC had initially discussed UFC 283 in Brazil as a possible landing spot for the rematch, but ultimately, Prochazka and Teixeira opted instead for December.
Jiri Prochazka and Teixeira were entailed in a brutal affair that could easily be a “Fight of the Year” candidate in June. The back and forth battle went on for five rounds. The war ended with Prochazka securing a rear-naked choke to finish Teixeira with less than 30 seconds remaining on the clock.
Going into that fifth and final round, the judges scored Teixeira up on two cards and the third official having it as a draw. Prochazka secured the finish to prevent the scorecards from having any impact, but he was still disappointed in his performance even after winning the UFC light heavyweight title.
Fans will be eagerly waiting for the bout. We will see when the official announcement takes place.
