Winning a UFC World Championship is a pinnacle moment for every fighter, but Jiri Prochazka, the current Light Heavyweight titleholder, has not been entirely happy for his performance against Glover Teixeira at UFC 275, and revealed the mistake that made him disappointed at his victory.
I forgot to keep myself in the attitude: Jiri Prochazka
Even though he faced off against a weathered champion in Teixeira, the Brazilian had the upper hand throughout the fight and was even leading on the scorecard into the fifth round.
However, it was the same round when the momentum of the fight switched up and Jiri Prochazka was able to lock in a submission on Teixeira, with just 28 seconds to go on the clock and secured his maiden UFC title.
While the hard fought victory made MMA fighter in his 20s since Jon Jones, as well as the first fighter out of the Czech Republic to clinch the 205-pound title, Prochazka criticized his own performance after the bout, promising to come back as a better fighter up next.
Now, speaking on The MMA Hour, “BJP” outlined the one mistake he made against Teixeira, and that was changing up his attitude and not being in the “dominating” feeling he wanted to feel in the Octagon.
“I’m disappointed by it because I didn’t show what I said before the fight, like a total dominance, and I didn’t feel like I wanted to feel in the fight,” said Prochazka, “I little bit changed my attitude before the fight, and that was not a good idea, and I know what to do for the next time.”
“But the belt is here and I’m glad for that. That’s good enough. Glover was tough and I expected it will be like that in the fight, but I forgot to keep myself in the attitude [of] what I want to be in a fight. And that was the main mistake,” he added.
