Jiri Prochazka did not have an easy time in the Octagon against Glover Teixeira, and the neck to neck contest between the 205-pounders included a good dose of vocal interchange during the ground and pound.
Very nice. But still nothing: Jiri Prochazka told Glover Teixeira
The main event of UFC 275 in Singapore saw a heavy back and forth contest between Jiri Prochazka and Glover Teixeira, with Prochazka emerging as the new Light Heavyweight champion with a fifth round submission on the former titleholder Teixeira.
While Prochazka pulled the winning move with less than 30 seconds remaining on the clock, it was Teixeira who was ahead throughout the fight on the scorecards and often times, put Prochazka down to the canvas with his ground game. In the post fight interview, Prochazka detailed the dialogues that went down between him and Teixeira in the Octagon.
“Yeah, I talked with him,” said Prochazka, ”I said (to) him: ‘Very nice, very nice. But still nothing.’ I wanted to show him his ground and pound, he have no power to end me in that. But he have power enough to open me.”
“That was very bad. That was very bad, and it was right after I started to smile (at) him. I started to smile, and then he opened my eyebrow. And I said (to) myself, ‘OK, it’s not time for fun anymore,’” the newly crowned champ added. [H/T MMANews.com]
Having ended Teixeira’s short title reign, Prochazka is now the first MMA fighter in his 20s since Jon Jones to clinch the 205-pound title, as well as the first fighter out of the Czech Republic to achieve the feat. However, “Denisa” has not been satisfied with how he performed against Teixeira and vowed to return as a better fighter in his next fight.
