Jiri Prochazka is the newly crowned UFC Light Heavyweight champion– a piece of news that is making all of his fans happy and many more MMA enthusiasts amazed and yet, the titleholder himself is not riding the wave.

I was a little bit lazy: Jiri Prochazka

The Singapore Indoor Stadium this Sunday saw Prochazka making history. In a superb back and forth performance against former champion Glover Teixeira in the main event of UFC 275, Prochazka had come close to a loss a number of times and was behind in the scorecards.

However, the 28-year-old had the last laugh, defeating the veteran Brazilian via rear-naked choke submission with less than 30 seconds remaining in the fifth round and in the process, became the first MMA fighter in his 20s since Jon Jones to clinch the 205-pound title, as well as the first Czech fighter to achieve the feat.

All that being said, Prochazka is not happy at his performance in the fight. In the post fight interview, “Denis” became his own critic, citing that it was his laziness that had him trailing behind Teixeira in the scores until the stoppage.

“I was a little bit lazy to set up some situations and to prepare him for the knockout…to see the moments, see the right places and catch it. That was my laziness in the fight,” said Prochazka.

Prochazka is ready for either Teixeira or Blachowcz up next

Appraisals were also shed on Teixeira, the 42-year-old who was just less than 30 seconds away from defending his belt against one of the best in the division and soon after the fight, the Brazilian tweeted out his call for a rematch with Prochazka.

Responding to the tweet, Prochazka said that he’s onboard with the idea of facing Teixeira in a rematch in his next fight or even Jan Blachowcz. But no matter who it may be, Prochazka views to come back as a better fighter in his next outing in the Octagon.

“It doesn’t matter (if it) will be Glover or Jan,” Procházka went on, “Doesn’t matter. For me, it doesn’t matter. For the next fight, I swear I will be another fighter. Not like that. That was not (a) good performance for me.” [H/T MMANews.com]
