Joanna Jedrzejczyk has shown support for another former UFC champ- Ronda Rousey, who is rumored to be making a return to the Octagon.
The former UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion switched sides with WWE in 2018 as a full timer, following her exit from the mixed martial arts scene after two back to back losses in the Octagon.
The loss against Holly Holm at UFC 153 which dethroned her from the championship was followed by Rousey suffering another loss to the then Bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes in 2016 at UFC 207, following which she dropped the curtains on MMA, and the event went onto The Ellen DeGeneres Show to confirm that she would never be coming back.
However, following Nunes’ retirement from MMA and the bantamweight title getting vacated, UFC commentator Jon Anik said last month that “Rowdy”, the current one half of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, might be returning to fight for the 135-pound throne. The rumour gained more weight after Dave Meltzer claimed that Rousey has given WWE the date of her exit.
If Rousey does indeed return to the UFC, it will be after a gap of seven years and many doubt whether she would be able to secure a direct title shot on her comeback. However, former strawweight champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk believes she should, opining that the 135-pound belt belongs to her.
“She can fight for the vacant title. It’s her belt,” Jedrzejczyk told The Schmo regarding Rousey’s return.
speaking about whom Rousey should face in her comeback, Jedrzejczyk said it should be either Julianna Pena or Raquel Pennington. While Pena has been the champion formerly, Jedrzejczyk believes that Pennington is deserving a title shot as well.
“It can be Julianna or Raquel. Raquel deserves a title shot. She has a few win streaks so, yeah,” she added. [H/T BJPenn.com]
