It has been almost two years since Joanna Jedrzejczyk was seen in action inside the Octagon. The former UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion, who suffered back to back losses during her grudge rivalry with the reigning, two-time Strawweight champ Rose Namajunas, has only won two out of her four fights since 2018, and in her last bout that dates back to March 2020 when she suffered a loss against the then Strawweight champion Zhang Weili. And now, Jedrzejczyk wants to settle the scores with Weili in a rematch that she wants before August this year.
Would really love to fight Zhang Weili sooner than August: Joanna Jedrzejczyk
Following the two back-to-back losses against “Thug” Rose, Joanna Jedrzejczyk had racked up wins against Tecia Torres and Michelle Waterson at UFC on Fox 30 and UFC Fight Night 161 respectively. However, she lost to Valentina Shevchenko while contesting for her Flyweight championship at UFC 231, and at UFC 248 on 7th March 2020, the Pole suffered a split decision loss against “Magnum”, while making an attempt to regain her Strawweight belt.
Now, almost two years away from the cage, Jedrzejczyk wants to make a comeback, and not only that, she wants her return fight to be big, and has the Weili rematch in her mind. Meanwhile, the Chinese fighter is coming off back to back losses against Rose and is speculated to return until July or August, a time that Jedrzejczyk is ready to wait for.
“I heard Zhang Weili may not be back until late July or August,” Jedrzejczyk said on the Writer vs. Fighter podcast, “What they told me was that she was planning on being back to fighting March-April and then May-June. The last thing I heard was July-August. I can wait, and I want to wait, but on the other hand, I don’t want to wait that long. It’s complicated because all the girls from 1 to 10 are booked. But like I said, I’m only looking at the big, big, big fights.”
“It seems like she’s training. She’s posting pictures. She’s training, so I would really love to fight her sooner than August. I’m talking to Dan Lambert, Jennifer Goldstein, who is my manager, CAA management. We’re all trying to stay in touch with the UFC, with Mick, and make another decision,” Jedrzejczyk added.
