In a post-fight interview following his impressive unanimous decision win over Nursulton Ruziboev at UFC on ESPN 56, Joaquin Buckley didn’t hold back. The rising UFC welterweight contender called out former two-division champion Conor McGregor, challenging him to a fight at 170 pounds.
Joaquin Buckley Stated “I want you, you’re fighting at 170 pounds but you ain’t fighting a welterweight, you’re fighting a lightweight midget. Come at me bro, come at me, you said you built your weight up but you’re bullying Sean O’Malley and Ryan Garcia, come and bully me dawg,” Buckley said on the mic with Michael Bisping.
Conor McGregor Chose to Ignore Joaquin Buckley’s Rant
However, despite Buckley’s bold call-out, McGregor has remained silent, leaving fans wondering if this matchup will ever happen.
Joaquin Buckley’s fiery rant targeted McGregor’s recent Twitter behavior, where he had been taunting fighters in lower weight classes. Buckley didn’t mince words: “You’re fighting at 170 pounds, but you ain’t fighting a welterweight; you’re fighting a lightweight midget. Come at me, bro. You said you built your weight up, but you’re bullying Sean O’Malley and Ryan Garcia. Come and bully me, dawg.” But he didn’t stop there.

He went on to mock the entire McGregor family, claiming they come from a long line of “McHoes” and challenging McGregor to respond.
Despite Joaquin Buckley’s epic call-out, UFC CEO Dana White quickly shut down any hopes of this fight materializing. McGregor, who is gearing up to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303, seems focused on his own path. Buckley, realizing the unlikelihood of a McGregor showdown, has shifted his attention to another opponent: Gilbert Burns.
While the McGregor vs. Buckley fight remains a fantasy, the welterweight division continues to evolve. Fans can only hope that someday these two fighters will step into the octagon together, but for now, it’s just another intriguing what-if scenario in the world of MMA.
