Joe Pyfer challenges Joe Rogan’s remarks following his victory at UFC 316

Following last weekend’s UFC 316, rising middleweight Joe Pyfer questioned Joe Rogan’s remarks.

In the UFC’s middleweight class, Joe Pyfer has been regarded as someone to watch for a few years. At 185 pounds, it’s obvious that he’s a problem because of his size, demeanor, and amazing strength. Even though he did lose against Jack Hermansson, he has been able to bounce back, especially this past weekend.

Pyfer faced Kelvin Gastelum, a veteran of the UFC, and appeared to be at ease most of the time. At one point, he even succeeded in dropping the previous interim championship contender, and some would even say he was about to stop him. Unfortunately, he ended up receiving the nod on the scorecards of the judges, which is the largest victory of his career to date.

Pyfer, however, expressed his displeasure with the UFC 316 criticism in a recent interview.

Pyfer’s opinion of Rogan’s analysis on UFC 316

“They were a little hard on me,” Pyfer said on “The Ariel Helwani Show.” “Joe Rogan was a little hard on me. I just think the expectation is set so high for me, that if I don’t get a devastating finish, then everybody kind of starts being like, ‘Oh, well, if he wants to fight the higher competition, he’s got to do this, he’s got to do that.’

“It’s like, ‘Bro, Abus Magomedov just fought Michel Pereira when he was 2-2 in the UFC, and now he’s ranked No. 11. You could go from being unranked to No. 11 in one fight. I’ll get the better competition, relax. I think they were a little bit unfair as far as the reality of the fight. It was not a close fight. I was never in danger.”
