UFC Commentator Joe Rogan has put Demetrious Johnson’s name at the top of the UFC GOAT list. One of the most unavoidable and unanswered debates in the MMA community is regarding the Greatest UFC Fighter of all time. The names which are regularly taken at the top of any list are Jon Jones, Anderson Silva, GSP, and Demetrious Johnson. But to put anyone in the number one spot is the most difficult. All of the above-mentioned names are former champions and had long winning streaks in their careers and have also won multiple titles. But now Joe Rogan has given his firm opinion on who he thinks is the GOAT of MMA.
Joe Rogan in his latest appearance on the Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson podcast gave his thought on the GOAT debate. He feels that the former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johanson is number one in the GOAT rankings in the UFC.
“It’s hard to say, but it might have been Mighty Mouse. When he was in his prime, he was so magnificent, he was so fast, and he was doing things that you couldn’t believe that he was doing. He hit [Ray Borg] with a suplex, and caught him with an armbar on the way down. He body-dumped this guy, and in the process of taking him to the ground, got him in an armbar.”
Joe Rogan continued, “When he was in his prime, he was fighting world-caliber competition and they weren’t even hitting him. He was moving on angles that they didn’t expect, he was feinting them and shooting for takedowns, he was kicking them in the head when they thought he was going to throw a takedown. He was hitting people with wizard s*it.”
Joe Rogan’s point is very true as Demetrious Johnson in his prime was one of the all-time best fighters. He is the only UFC fighter to record over 10 takedowns in three different fights. Demetrious Johnson holds the record for most finishes in UFC flyweight history with 7. He is also the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix Champion. He is currently ranked no.1 in the ONE Championship flyweight rankings.
His last fight in the UFC was against Cejudo in a rematch at UFC 227 on August 4, 2018, for the UFC Flyweight Championship title. After a record 11 consecutive successful title defenses, Johnson’s championship reign came to an end via a split decision loss to Cejudo. The fight was a rematch between the duo. The first fight was won by Demetrious Johnson via TKO in round 1.
