Joe Rogan: UFC working on new glove design to reduce eye pokes

Just a few days ago UFC’s long time colour commentator Joe Rogan  revealed on his podcast  that the UFC is all about to make an alteration to it’s present glove used in the fights. The news might come as a blessing to most of the fight fans and even the fighters as there had been a lot of instances where the glove’s design has been put to blame for the maximum number of eye pokes happening during the fight.

Joe brought on the topic in his most recent Fight Companion Podcast on JRE after Brendan Schaub had said about a recent fight where Neil Magny had blamed his opponent Santiago Ponzinnibio for a substantial eye poke which partially blinded him in one eye and ultimately resulted in him losing the bout.

Joe said,”That’s a real problem, man, and there is a solution in the works.Unfortunately,I can’t talk about it,I’m sworn to secrecy.”

“Goggles!”Schaub suggested.(What?)

Joe also added that “They have a better glove design that they are working on right now, that someone is working on.I can’t say anything.I’ve already said too much.”

Offlate,a lot of complains about eye pokes were inadvertently affecting the fights in UFC and a lot of complains were coming regarding the design of the glove.Joe Rogan had previously expressed his love for the gloves used at PRIDE FC back in those days in Japan as those gloves had a shape that pointed the fingers downward rather than freely pointing out forward. The UFC gloves which are currently in use are stiff and pull the hand open, leaving the fingers extended forward hence resulting in a lot of eye pokes.

Rizin FC has been using the similarly designed PRIDE gloves and hardly there had been any significant eye pokes in the history of the promotion.
