John Kavanagh is currently one of the best coaches in the sport of MMA. Kavanagh is the head coach of Straight Blast Gym in Dublin, Ireland which serves as a training ground for former double champ ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor.
Kavanagh will have another of his soldiers going for war this weekend as 22 year old prospect James ‘The Strabanimal’ Gallagher headline Bellator 217 against Steven Graham in his adopted hometown of Dublin.
Bellator despite being a North American powerhouse, has had a huge impact on the European MMA scene. In a recent interview, Kavanagh addressed the issue. Kavanagh also claimed that Bellator’s deal with Sky Sports will lead to it’s rise.
“Saturday night is a changing point for what it is to be an MMA fighter in Ireland and the UK. Until now if you’re a pro on the local scene, you’re fighting for a couple of hundred euros,” said Kavanagh.
“Now with Bellator and the Sky Sports deal, there’s opportunities for guys to make a living, and not just the top guys.”
Kavanagh claimed that Bellator is contributing to the European market even more than the UFC and is willing to help Bellator in the future.
Kavanagh added: “The UFC is going to do what the UFC is going to do, think they are more invested in the American and maybe the Chinese market now as of late, and Bellator are more in the European market.
“My relationship is very strong with Bellator and I’m committed to helping them corner the European market.”
