Conor McGregor knocked out Donald Cerrone in the main event of UFC 246 in just 40-seconds to end his fifteen-month hiatus from the Octagon.

The fans didn’t expect Conor McGregor to blow Cerrone out so quickly. McGregor busted Cerrone’s nose with his shoulders and then went for a high kick which dropped him and then went for the ground and pound after which the referee had to step in to stop the fight.

Now that McGregor has made his successful return, fans are wondering as to what could be next for the Irishmen. The fight with Cerrone took place in the welterweight division and McGregor said that he was enjoying fighting at 170lbs.

I like this weight division,” McGregor said during the post-fight interview. “I feel really good. I’m in shape. I don’t believe I’m there yet, though, to get back to where I was.”

There are a lot of good fights to be made for Conor McGregor at the welterweight division. Jorge Masvidal and Kamaru Usman were present cage-side expecting a callout.

Conor McGregor’s coach wants Justin Gaethje next

Conor McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh recently appeared on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, where he revealed that he would like to see Conor fight Justin Gaethje at welterweight next.

That would be my personal preference,” Kavanagh said Monday during “Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show.” “He’s another lightweight, but neither of them have to cut weight, The vision is getting that 155-pound belt back, so it’s a step towards that.”

This is not the first time John Kavanagh has called Gaethje to be a potential opponent. Earlier this month, he said that a fight between him and McGregor would be fantastic.

Just to look at Gaethje as an opponent, he’s a very good competitor, a hard-hitter, comes forward with a lot of pressure. His match up with Conor would be fantastic and the fans would love it.” (H/T -The MacLife)

Dana White wants to have a talk with Justin Gaethje

In lead-up to Cerrone vs McGregor, Dana White has repeatedly said that if Conor McGregor wins next, he will be fighting the winner of Khabib vs Tony even if Gaethje has been tearing through the lightweight division.

There’s been all this, ‘What about Justin Gaethje’ stuff. The reality is, me and Justin Gaethje need to sit down and talk face to face and have a meeting,” White said. “So, we’ll probably do that in the next few weeks and sit down with him. I like Gaethje. Gaethje’s a great kid, and he’s a super talented guy, and he and I need to get on the same page.”

Justin Gaethje has been eagerly waiting for a title shot. He is currently on a three-fight winning streak and all his victories have come via first-round knockouts.
