On Friday morning, UFC Greenville took a big blow just before the official weigh-ins.
Due to an injury, John Lineker, who replaced Cody Stamann on a month’s notice against Rob Font in the co-main event of Saturday night’s card in South Carolina.
Ariel Helwani, via ESPN, reported the following :
According to Lineker’s manager Alex Davis, Lineker suffered a cut above his left eyebrow late last night while cutting weight. Davis, who was not with Lineker when the incident happened, said the circumstances surrounding how he suffered the cut were unclear at this time. Lineker was sent to the hospital and had the cut glued together in hopes of salvaging the fight, however, he ultimately decided to withdraw, Davis said.
“Hands of Stone” was very vocal on social media three weeks ago, suggesting the promotion release him if they didn’t like his style enough to give him a fight. The callout worked, and the UFC matched him up with Font days later. It’s the second time that Lineker pulls out of a fight in 2019, though, after withdrawing from a bantamweight clash with Cory Sandhagen in January. The Brazilian eventually met Sandhagen on April 27, losing via split decision.
