UFC Light heavyweight contender Johnny Walker has expressed his interest in fighting Anthony Smith for his next fight.

Walker

Walker is one of the most energetic fighters in the UFC, and is an entertainer apart from just being a good martial artist. After defeating Ryan Spann in a spectacular fashion via TKO in the first round at UFC Las vegas 11, Walker made a strong statement to the division. Holding a record of 4-2 in the UFC, the Brazilian had faced quite a downfall in his last two fights against Corey Anderson and Nikita Krylov. This made it all the more important for him to win this one.

It’s hard to speculate who his next fight could be against, but in an interview with Combate’s Evelyn Rodrigues, Walker revealed who is is interested to fight next. “Maybe Anthony Smith, or anyone who is above me in the ranking. I don’t like to fight with a Brazilian, but if I have to fight, we fight,” Walker said about his next opponent.

Smith being ranked No.8 in the division is a reasonable fight to make. Anthony Smith is on a two-fight losing streak against Alexandar Rakic and Glover Teixeira, which has put his career in a dangerous spot. If Smith stays in the current weight class, this seems to be the fight to make for Johnny Walker. But that not might be the case, as Smith has previously hinted a move to the Heavyweight division, following his contemporaries like Alexander Gustaffson and Jon Jones. This will leave the Light heavyweight division in a dry spot, with no real challengers to the top 5. A potential fight then for Johnny would be against Volkan Oezdemir.

Johnny Walker feels good at the new camp

After facing two back to back losses, Johnny decided to make changes to his approach. He started with switching his camp to Ireland’s SBG, the gym at which Conor McGregor trains. This was quite a gamble, as a third loss would have put his career at risk. However, it seemed to have worked out well for him, and he said he has found new home in that camp.

It’s been one of the best camps I’ve ever had,” Walker said. “Coach Kavanagh is taking great care of me, he’s giving me special attention here, and I’m really happy. He’s very smart and does great training. He’s super professional, and there are a lot of big guys here as well, some Bellator fighters, so it’s great training for me.”
