The light heavyweight rivalry between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson has finally come to an end as Jones finished Alexander Gustafsson in the third round to claim the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight championship at the Forum in Inglewood, California.
So now top UFC light heavyweight contender Anthony Smith is ready to challenge Jon Jones for the UFC gold next. Anthony Smith has also called Jones out previously while working as a desk analyst on FS1’s UFC 232 post-fight show.
Now Jon Jones has hinted about his next fight being against Anthony Smith, he posted a pic on Instagram of him watching a video of Smith on Youtube.
The caption read, ” So much to study, this is going to be fun“.
Anthony Smith is coming off of a submission victory against Volkan Oezdemir at UFC Fight Night in Moncton, Canada.
Smith told TMZ Sports that his team is already in negotiation for a showdown against Jon Jones later this year.
“It sounds like he’s in,” Smith said. “Of course, [my manager] has already been talking to the UFC and I think that they’re working that out and seeing what that looks like as far as timelines and stuff, but I’m in.”
“I’m not afraid of him and I think that Jon has a lot of people beat before they even get in there,” Smith said. “I think people look at Jon like he’s an uphill battle and this unreachable task and I don’t see him like that. I’m not wowed by him. I see a man that I can beat and a person with holes, like any other human, that can be exploited.”
Do you guys think Anthony Smith has the tools to beat Jon Jones?
