UFC 235 is shaping up to be one of the most stacked cards in the history of the sport. The main event will feature a fairly quick turnaround for newly crowned light heavyweight champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones, who will defend his title against #3 ranked Anthony ‘Lionheart’ Smith.
In his last fight, Jones took on a familiar face in former two-time light heavyweight title challenger Alexander Gustafsson in a rematch of their 2013 close fight. This time however, Jones left no doubt as he outclassed Gustafsson via vicious ground and pound TKO in the third round to become the UFC light heavyweight champion.
However head coach Mike Winkeljohn claims that would be the way to go for all of Jones’ fights as the Albuquerque based camp is preparing Jones to finish his fights.
“Oh yeah, there is no doubt and Jon is all about getting a finish. He wants to finish his fights from now on,” Winkeljohn explained. “Here is the deal, when Jon is on top and starts dropping elbows, nobody wants to be there. It is a bloody mess, everybody will turn and he will tap him out. That is how I see fights going in the future. They are going to be so fearful of getting taken down that striking will be even easier than it has been and Jon will finish everybody from now on.”
Expectedly Jones will enter the octagon as a heavy 13-1 favourite against Smith.
