UFC 232 was supposed to be the biggest card of the year. However the much anticipated main event looked in serious jeopardy as former light heavyweight champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones once again lost the toughest battle of his career, that is with the drug tests.

For the third time in his career, Jones has been tested positive for a banned substance. This time however for a familiar substance in an androgenic steroid, Turinabol.

Jones was tested positive for the steroid Turinabol in an in-competition drug test before his rematch against Cormier at UFC 214 last year. Jones who defeated Cormier via TKO in the third round, was stripped of the title and Cormier was named as the undisputed champ with immediate effect.

However it can be a single saving grace for Jones as there is a possibility of the substance being in his body since the last time he was tested. Considering this fact, Jones will stay on the card as the entire card is relocated to California as the Nevada State Athletic Commission didn’t allowed Jones to compete. UFC vice president of athlete health and performance Jeff Novitzky, released a statement to claim Jones is innocent.

“For those who pay attention, in a strange kind of a way, this almost vindicates him in what he’s been saying all along,” Novitzky said. “Now you have USADA saying it in writing. You have [Dr. Daniel] Eichner of SMRTL [a WADA-accredited lab in Salt Lake City] saying it. You have Larry Bowers [former science director of USADA], another respected worldwide anti-doping expert, all of them saying ‘Yep, this guy didn’t do anything wrong.’ ”
