It appears that Jon Jones is ready to bury the hatchet as his latest words at Daniel Cormier sheds massive appraisals.
The rivalry between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier remains of the greatest ever in the UFC. They both had two fights, with both of them ending with wins for “Bones,” and they are the top two of all time bests at 205 pounds. While “DC” is also one of the greatest heavyweights of all time, Jones will soon be taking the leap into the division as well.
Even though Cormier is now retired and Jones isn’t, a cold war between the two continued to remain, with both taking occasional shots at one another. Meanwhile, as Jones’ heavyweight debut approaches, he turned sweet when talking about his old foe.
“I’m not competing against Daniel Cormier,” said Jones during a recent interview with Sports Illustrated. “I’ve already beat him twice. I’m really happy for Daniel Cormier. I love what he’s done in his life with his wrestling and broadcasting. I think it’s awesome when a fighter can retire and use his voice and intelligence to do something that he loves, so I’ve got nothing but respect for Daniel Cormier.”
This is the fight to watch: Jon Jones on facing Ciryl Gane at UFC 285
Jones will be making his heavyweight debut at UFC 285 against Ciryl Gane– for the vacant heavyweight title. The fight was originally in talks to happen against Francis Ngannou, but “The Predator” didn’t come to terms with the UFC regarding contract and parted ways, leaving his title up for grabs.
“I respect that Ciryl took this fight,” Jones commented on his upcoming opponent. “I like what he stands for. He carries himself like a gentleman. I know he has a lot to gain and not much to lose, but this is a huge step up in competition for him in my opinion.”
“This is the fight to watch. This is the way MMA is headed. Two lean heavyweights that could have played football or basketball. It’s going to be two elite athletes going at it,” he added.
