Jon Jones rubbishes Dana White comments that he asked ‘too much money’ for Ngannou fight

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones wanted the UFC to make a super fight with top heavyweight contender Francis Ngannou.

Both fighters have been going back and forth on social media. Jones seems to be ready to move up to the heavyweight division and Francis Ngannou is ready to welcome him.

As the trash-talking increased on social media, the excitement amongst fans also started rising on the salivating thought of seeing Jones fight Ngannou in the heavyweight division. Jones has been hinting the move to heavyweight for a long time, but never went through with it. However, UFC shut down the negotiations for the fight.

UFC president Dana White in a recent interview with Brett Okamoto clarified the reason behind shutting the negotiations down for the potential super fight.

It’s one thing if you come out and say, ‘Yeah, listen, I want a little more money,’” White said. “The amount of money Jon Jones wanted doesn’t make (sense). First of all, you have, in the light heavyweight division, the Dominick Reyes fight as the fight that makes sense. So is Jon Jones going to go and fight Francis Ngannou, then try to take a run at the heavyweight title? I don’t believe that. He’s never wanted to move to heavyweight before.

For the amount of money he’s asking for, it’s not going to happen. You couldn’t be asking for a more absurd amount of money at a worse time.” (H/T – MMA Junkie)

Jon Jones says Dana White lied about negotiations

Jon Jones took to twitter and stated that Dana White was lying in a series of tweets.

It’s interesting to just sit here and watch your boss lie to the camera like this,” Jones wrote. “We never discussed any increase in pay. Immediately the conversation was that I already made enough. I never made a number offer.”

If you’re not going to change my contract for the heavyweight move, at least have the decency to be honest with the fans. … I was over the situation, but I’m not gonna sit back and allow Dana to lie to the fans. I never asked for an absurd amount of money. That’s bullsh*t. … Absolute bullsh*t.” Jones added in the subsequent tweets.

However, Jon Jones stated that he is not losing hope with the UFC and stated that he is taking things as if the UFC didn’t want to budget a fight of this magnitude just about now.

I’m not going to give up hope the way I’m taking this whole thing is @Ufc don’t want to budget the Jon Jones heavyweight move up right now. They should’ve just said that, lying on me and saying I asked for too much it’s just unfair. That was unnecessary,” Jones tweeted.

He also stated that he is mad at the UFC, just disappointed that Dana White had to resort to lying.

You already let me down a bit by shutting down this Francis Mega fight, don’t add salt to the wound by telling the fans something that’s not the truth,” he said.

If you’re wondering I’m not fighting with Ufc. I’m not mad at Dana or beefing. Just surprised he went that route. I said my piece, I’m over it,” Jon Jones concluded.
