UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has once again tested positive for steroid metabolite in his system. Jones was tested by Voluntary Anti-Doping agency on the weigh-in day and fight night.

Although the fight day had no traces of any metabolite in his system, but the test conducted on the day of the weigh-in i.e Friday, Dec. 28, 2019, Jones had 33 picograms of 4-chloro-18-nor-17β-hydroxymethyl,17α-methyl-5α-androst-13-en-3α-ol (M3) (or DHMCT) in his system.

According to the head of California State Athletic Commission(CSAC) Andy Foster, they are not going to take any action for the Turinabol metabolite found in his system.

“I spoke with the scientists,” Foster said to MMAFighting“They stand by their original statement. Nothing has changed. We’ve already punished Jon Jones for the M3 metabolite, which is a long-term metabolite. There’s no grounds to charge somebody twice for the same violation.”

According to UFC vice president of athlete health and performance Jeff Novitzky, he is not surprised by the presence of the metabolite in his system.

“Science-wise, it does make some sense,” Novitzky said. “Once again, there was no parent compound and none of the short- or medium-term metabolites, which tend to stick around for three or weeks. So this is even more indicative that for whatever reason this long-term metabolite is just hanging around in these tissues and they get expressed when you’re going through weight loss.”

Jon Jones tested positive for Turinabol after his fight against Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 and it again showed up in his system for his recent fight against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232 and for which the Nevada State Athletic Commission refused to issue Jones a license and the entire event had to be shifted to Inglewood, California on a week’s notice.
