Jorge Masvidal has pulled out of his scheduled fight against top welterweight contender Leon Edwards at UFC 269. The duo was scheduled to fight at UFC 269 which is going to take place on December 11, 2021, at T-Mobile Arena Las Vegas. UFC 269 will be headlined by the UFC lightweight title fight between champion Charles Oliveira and no.1 contender Dustin Poirier. Jorge Masvidal vs Leon Edwards was among the major fights of the main card. According to the reports Jorge Masvidal has pulled out due to an injury.

On Wednesday, UFC chief business officer, Hunter Campbell declared Masvidal’s withdrawal from UFC 269 through broadcast partner ESPN. The reports said that Masvidal has pulled out due to an injury that is yet to be revealed. There’s no confirmation whether or not Leon Edwards will stay on the card and who will replace Jorge Masvidal. Many UFC welterweight fighters are willing to replace Masvidal and the prime candidate for that fight is Khamzat Chimaev.

Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal were supposed to fight one of the best grudge matches in UFC History. The pair has bad blood between them as they had a physical altercation after a UFC Fight Night event in the UK. Masvidal faced Darren Till on March 16, 2019, in the main event at UFC Fight Night 14. Jorge defeated Till in the second round of the fight with a vicious combo and won the fight via KO. After the fight was over Masvidal was doing an interview backstage, where he exchanged a few words with Edwards, who also fought on the same card. The situation went out of hands as Masvidal and Edwards took shots at each other which resulted in Leon getting a cut under his eye.

Masvidal is now coming off of back-to-back losses against the Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. In his last fight, Kamaru Usman knocked out Masvidal in round 2.

Leon Edwards on the other hand is riding a nine-fight winning streak in the stacked welterweight division. He is coming off a dominant decision win over Nate Diaz. After hearing the news of Jorge Masvidal’s pull-out, Leon Edwards tweeted that he will be waiting for his title shot against Kamaru Usman and till then he will be enjoying some time with his family.

“Disappointed but honestly I knew this fraud didn’t want to fight me anyway,” Edwards wrote on Twitter. “He was just a stop off on the way to the title. The goal remains the same. Much needed family time now, Kamaru Usman, I will see you soon.”

Would you guys like to see Leon Edwards fight someone else or should he wait for his title shot?
