Jose Aldo believes Conor McGregor can return at a higher level

Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo seems to have buried his beef with Conor McGregor and is supporting Conor for his comeback fight.

At UFC 264 Conor McGregor fought Dustin Poirier in a highly anticipated fight of the ages. the duo fought to settle their rivalry as they were both 1-1 in their fighting series. Dustin looked dominant in the opening round and was scored 10-8 by two judges. But at the end of the first round, Conor accidentally snapped his leg and stepped on it which broke his foot in half. The doctor had to call off the fight which resulted in Dustin winning the trilogy fight by TKO via doctor Stoppage.

After the fight and after undergoing surgery on that broken leg, Conor informed the media that he had some injuries going into the fight and UFC knew about it. Now many people believe that this might be the end period of Mcgregor’s amazing career, but his former opponent whom he KO’ed in mere 13 seconds Jose Aldo has a Different opinion on Conor.

“First of all, I’m upset with the injury,” Aldo told Ag. Fight. “It’s quite hard, we work with our body, we try to keep it healthy because that way we can always be working.

“I think he can [get back to fighting at a high level]. I never doubt the champions, the mind and willpower of the champions. He has dominating before and was the lightweight and featherweight champion. It’s all up to him. If he wants to come back at a high level, he can do it.”

As many people believe it would be hard for Conor to come back from such kind of horrific injury and then compete at the peak of the already stacked lightweight division. But according to Aldo, he feels like people should not doubt Conor, considering the things he has done in his illustrious fighting career.

He also stated that if Conor wouldn’t have sustained that injury at UFC 264 the result of the fight might have gone either way.

“The fight was going well especially because Conor forgot [his promotional] side and tried to be the fighter and win until that leg situation happened,” Aldo said. “But, man, I think it’s up to him [to return]. If he wants to come back again, he will work hard, abdicate from certain things to get there, dedicate himself and go back to the winning path.”

Jose Aldo is now scheduled to face Pedro Munhoz on August 7, 2021, at UFC 265.
